All About Boston Terrier Problem Behaviors

by Wendy Caples

When thinking about bringing home any particular breed, you are going to want to make sure that the personality and the problems that may come along with the dog are things that you can handle and get past. And when thinking about the Boston Terrier, you are going to really want to stop and think about what Boston Terrier problem behaviors you are more in likely going to deal with. Making sure that you truly understand what you are going to face will make sure that you do not make the wrong decision.

By putting proper Boston Terrier training into action, you will give yourself a better chance at avoiding some nasty problems but you are never completely safe from everything. Make sure that you check out some local dog obedience classes around your area or stock up on some of the newest in dog training books in order to learn as much as you possibly can. The more knowledge you have, the better your chances are at completely controlling the situation.

Before you go jumping in head first trying to figure out what problems you are going to run across and how you are going to fix them, you first need to truly understand what it is that you are going to be training on. A dog that is never taught to sit will not have problem behaviors towards the sit command. While it is nice that an owner wants to get ready for the typical Boston Terrier problem behaviors, the fact is that not all of the dogs are going to show the same problems.

You want to figure out what it is exactly that you are going to expect from your dog and what you hope he or she will achieve. Try not to set the goals too high though, because if your puppy is not able to meet your standards you may get upset and when the owner is upset, the dog will be upset. Try to keep focused but do not forget that your little dog will make mistakes and it is okay every now and then.

A lot of people seem to automatically think that if a dog is showing signs of behavior problems that it is a bad dog and the problems are the fault of the dog. But that is simply not the case as the real problem is that the dog was not properly trained.

It is natural for every dog, no matter the breed, to experience some degree of problem behaviors and it is up to the owner to solve the situation.

The biggest problem that owners talk about is housebreaking because let’s face it, an animal doing their business all over new carpet is not something that is looked at calmly most times. While there are a lot of breeds that have potty training problems, the Boston Terrier probably takes close to the longest period of time to train.

And this is simply because they do not like being told what to do and they try to resist it most times which means you are probably looking at a good six months for potty training.
