What Made My Boyfriend Leave Me?

by Erik J. Michaels

It’s a pretty classic “chick-flick” concept…women sitting on their couch, bawling their eyes out into a bucket of Ben & Jerry’s, moaning into the air “Why did he leave me?!?” Maybe in real life, it doesn’t get quite that dramatic, but a lot of girls really are left puzzled as to what went wrong and made him want to leave. Well girls, I’m here to offer a guy’s perspective and help you figure it out.

There are a number of things that may make a man want to leave, some decent reasons and some stupid reasons. Not all of them can you do anything about, but a lot are pretty easily fixed if it’s not too late. You’ll find that many relationships can be pulled back together if only you know what was wrong, so I’m going to help you out and list off some of the chief culprits.

1) One of the biggest things guys run away from is a bossy, controlling woman. Some women seem to feel that they’re entitled to be in our faces and up our hinders 24/7, even when they’re not physically with us (in which case usually they attack us by proxy via constant cellphone calls demanding where we are). This is complete folly…as funny as it may seem to watch some guy in a movie get hounded by his bossy wife, in real life it’s not something people just laugh off. It’s something that makes guys run off.

This usually doesn’t get to such an extreme, but if you catch yourself nagging him like this, you need to stop a sec and think about it. This kinda thing can happen without you realizing it, and before you know it he’s gone to find somebody who won’t make him pull his hair out.

2) The sad fact of the matter is that a LOT of relationships are absolutely destroyed by “another person.” It can show up in a variety of ways, from another girl coming into his life who seems to be absolutely perfect for him, to one or the other of you two deciding that it’s just not worth it to keep your pants on and be faithful to one another. Generally him cheating on you doesn’t make him leave you, but I guarantee that if you do it to him he’s going to dump you flat on your rear.

So it shouldn’t be surprising that the best way to avoid a relationship going in the toilet like this is to NOT CHEAT ON HIM. Yeah, no duh, right? It seems like a no-brainer, but the former singular role of guys to be the ones doing the cheating has really bled over into the fairer sex. So just don’t do it. To keep him from wanting to wander and stray to other women, about all you can do is provide him with what he needs at home, so that he doesn’t go elsewhere to get it. Remember though, that there are some dirtbag guys who just can’t seem to be satisfied with one person, and there’s nothing you can do about that.

3) If a guy gets bored, he’s probably going to eventually end up leaving. It’s kinda harsh to say that you could ever bore him, but sometimes things get in the way of you two and stuff just kinda gets stale. Whether it’s class, work, or doing things with friends, something can end up keeping the two of you from having much time for one another, and when that happens sometimes the raging fires of love can sizzle down into embers and even go out.

Best way to keep him interested and with you is to try to keep stuff interesting and spontaneous. Spend whatever time together the two of you can, and if there isn’t any time…MAKE time. It’s really important that the two of you manage to keep together, because there’s really no reason why two people that love each other should get bored and call it quits.

Well, those are a few of the bigger causes of relationships ending with the guy deciding it’s time to move on (which is a nicer way of saying “dumping you”). This is by no means the absolute definitive work on relationship killers, but it’s pretty complete as far as the main ones go, and a lot of the unmentioned contributors to breakups are at least somewhat related to these three.
