Attract Prospects By Branding Yourself An Expert

by Lindsey

It is the ultimate goal of any sales marketing strategy: to be the biggest name in the business, the one that people immediately pull up in their mind when they think about an expert in the field. Of course everyone wants to be that guy whose name is synonymous with knowledge and expertise, but very few achieve it.

The following anecdote illustrates an important point: A customer comes in for an appointment with the head of a very well-known marketing agency. His first question is: aShow me some results. I hear youare the best, but I havenat seen proof.a

aWell,a says the department head in response, \”let me ask you how you heard about our business.\” He pauses to let it sink in. \”Obviously the word-of-mouth marketing campaign we use to advertise our own business is working!a The customer understands that the expert has proven his point.

There are two sides to the coin when it comes to being known as an expert in your field. First is being the best so that people automatically think of you first. Or, you can sell yourself so that people think of you first. The end result is really the same.

Of course, you have to know what youare doing in order to get prospects calling and it may not be easy. But, branding yourself is an expert is something that can be learned. Itas just another atrick of the tradea that the top players in every field have in common.

These aexpertsa arenat necessarily the best in their fields, but they are the best at one thing: getting customers thinking that they are the best and therefore, getting the calls. Whether they picked this trick up from mentors or from training seminars, they know how to apply themselves when it comes to self-branding.

In marketing, itas important to afake it until you make it.a You can become a well-known expert simply by acting like one. Be confident in what you have to say and take advantage of websites and e-mail lists to get your message out to people. Some of those people might appreciate what you have to offer.

Imagine having prospects flocking to your door, rather than having to chase them down. This is whatas possible if you successfully brand yourself an expert. No matter what your business, this self-branding technique can help you get off the ground running.
