It’s time to begin the Potty Training.
Parents need to be aware of how important potty training is for their child. Much more than simply learning to use the potty, it’s a transition moment when they will turn from babies into “big kids”. The secret for making this moment a pleasant achievement for the child is to enfold it with lots of care and praise.
Potty training comes in a moment a child starts to seek for independence. They begin to try acting in an independent way, but they still have a lot to learn in order to do it. That’s why the parents support and guidance is essential when comes the time for the potty training. Pushing will only make them feel under pressure. Check bellow some examples of efficient positive urge:
*Get a colorful and fun potty to make your kid feel interested on it. Place it on the bathroom in a way it can tease his curiosity. Asking him to sit on it and telling him tales you will make him become more familiar to the potty and ready to move to the next round.
* Dump the poop from used diapers into the potty. It will make him begin to associate the potty with the place where poop is supposed to go. He may find it entertaining to flush the toilet when you empty the potty.
*There are plenty of books which explain a child how to use the potty. You can pick some of them and read to your kid. These books are great because more then teaching about using potty they also talk about good hygiene. Make sure you are always honest on your answers when your child asks you questions.
*Praise your child every time he or she uses the potty. Avoid making comparisons between your child and other kids. Compliment the child for doing what he or she is expected to do without going to far on it, otherwise your child may start to feel pressured.
* Accidents happens and remaining positive about it will make your kid feel less ashamed. Just smile and tell him it happens to everybody and the next time he will be fast enough to reach the potty in time.
*Motivate him giving little rewards like golden star stickers, candies or extra TV time every time he uses the potty well.
*You will have also to show them it’s time to change the diapers for underwear. A good way to make them get used to the idea is to let them pick the underwear they like on a store and tell they will only wear it when they are using the potty regularly. Once progresses are made, just let them wear it as they are likely to not want to get them dirty and rushing to the bathroom when they need to use the potty.
The first days when can be frustrating for the kid and for you, but only a optimism and positive behavior will give children the support and motivation they need to make this very important step towards their “big kids” life.
