How does acupuncture work

by Roberts

Acupuncture is an ancient alternative form of treatment, for illnesses in the different body systems, that has been in existence for hundreds of years. It makes use of thin, sterile, stainless steel needles, inserted into identified acupuncture points, depending on he part of the body that is affected with illness.

The treatment plan depends on the kind of illness, the state of the illness and the patient’s response to acupuncture. Generally it starts at a weekly basis, gradually reducing in frequency as the patient’s condition improves.

Acupuncture can also be used to prevent illness and disharmony from developing in the first place. An over-worked brain can damage the spleen and lead to Qi deficiency causing imbalances in Yin and Yang and the flow of Qi and Blood.”How does acupunture work then?” Acupuncture is effective for a wide range of ailments including anything from respiratory, digestive, cardio-vascular, musculo-skeletal and emotional/psychological conditions.

Acupuncture is based on the Chinese belief that the human body is controlled by a life force known as Qi (pronounced ‘chee’). Qi flows through the body in channels, known as meridians. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical art, aimed at maintaining a proper balance in the body?s functions. Illness is caused by an imbalance of Yin and Yang, the positive and negative forces of expansion and contraction.

Acupuncture can also be used as a preventative treatment as it is often possible to detect imbalances in the body before illness occurs. The earlier a disorder is detected the better so regular checkups are recommended. Acupuncture is a safe treatment for all. It has proved to be effective in pregnancy management and for the relief of pain in childbirth. Acupuncture can also help with migraines or headaches, even disorders such as insomnia, depression, fatique or irritable bowel syndrome.

The acupuncturist have treated the Chinese people for common illnesses as well as stress-related ones. The needle placed at strategic parts of the body aid in the release of energy blocks to stimulate the body to the road of self -recovery. More and more people are availing of acupuncture as an affordable alternative treatment for their medical problems such that there is a demand for trained personnel to administer this form of therapy

Needles used in acupuncture activate small nerve fibers in the muscle, which transmit impulses to the spinal cord and activate centers in the central nervous system, releasing a variety of neurotransmitters. Pain relief, for example, is mediated by the release of opioid-like substances. Needles are placed at specific points along meridians, or channels to balance the free flow of energy, restoring the health. These channels are connected to a specific area or organ system of the body.
