Cut Those Corners And Save Those Dollars

by Sherman Bell

With the advent of the 20th century, the age of the gadgets had begun. The wealthy and the rich wanted ever more comfort and to appease them more and more inventions started taking place. Newer gadgets started hitting the market every day and people went crazy to buy them. The last few decades have seen an explosion in the number of electronic and other material things that money can buy. But most of these things that we buy are because someone we know has it and is considered cool to have. So, in this race for being cool we also must have it and therefore we go ahead mindlessly spend our hard earned dollars on buying those items.

By just removing a few of these things form our homes and everyday lives, we can save up to thousands of dollars each year in bills. Mobile phones have become so common that almost everyone has one today. We believe that it has become an indispensible part of our lives. While landlines were a must have before the mobile phones, now both of them are considered as a must have. But why do you need that landline if you have a mobile phone? It is with you whether you are at home somewhere else. Cutting the lines of that landline can easily save you at least $50 a month.

We all pay huge internet connection bills each month. We buy high speed connections even though our usage is just limited to regular internet surfing and sending or receiving emails. By shifting to a lower speed plan, one that suits our needs, we can save hundreds of dollars each year. Also if you rarely logon to the internet, like once or twice a month, it would be much more economical to use the internet facility at the nearby library or a cyber caf.

The TV set has been very correctly named the idiot-box. Most of the time we just keep flipping between the channels hoping for something interesting to turn up only to end up frustrated at the end. So why not just cut the cable connection so that you have enough time to relax, exercise or spend with your family or do something more worthwhile than just flipping channels with your TV’s remote.

You should also cancel all those magazine subscriptions that you don’t even read except for in the bathroom. Rather borrow books and magazines from the local library if you really want something to read in the loo. You can save hundreds of precious dollars each year in magazine subscription fee by cancelling them.

By just cutting a few unnecessary expenses from our everyday lives we can save thousands of dollars each year. The more we save, the more we will want to save because once you start seeing the greens accumulating in the bank account you will just not want them to stop from increasing. Thus, eventually leaving you richer for the better things in life.
